Automatic Side Pot Calculation
Side-pot calculations are a common source of confusion when several poker players go all-in. Just Poker Chip automates these complex calculations and awards every pot accurately.
- No mental math: Even when several players go all-in with different stack sizes, the app separates the main and side pots automatically in milliseconds.
- Automatic showdown payouts: Tap the winner and the chips are immediately awarded to each eligible player.
- Prevent disputes: Avoid interruptions and arguments caused by calculation errors or misunderstood rules.
What Is a Side Pot?
A side pot is a separate pot created when a player goes all-in by betting their entire stack. When every player contributes the same amount, one main pot is enough. The situation becomes more complex when players with different stack sizes go all-in.
An all-in player can only win chips matched by their own contribution. Any excess goes into a side pot that only the remaining eligible players can win. Calculating this accurately by hand is difficult and often causes disputes in home games.
A Worked Example
Consider a hand with three players: A, B, and C.
Starting Stacks and Actions
Player A: Stack 500 → All-in (500)
Player B: Stack 1,200 → Calls (500 of 1,200 goes to the main pot)
Player C: Stack 2,000 → Calls (500 of 2,000 goes to the main pot)
Players A, B, and C are all eligible to win it.
Only B and C are eligible to win it. A is not eligible.
Even if A has the best hand, A can only receive the main pot of 1,500. B and C compete for the 1,400 side pot, which goes to the player with the stronger hand between them.
This is difficult to calculate by hand, but Just Poker Chip handles it automatically and instantly.
